The ATHLETES 4 SOCIETY project aims to inspire, support and stimulate sports organizations to increase the public value of sports. Specifically by empowering sports organizations to develop policies, campaigns, or programs that successfully put athletes to good use towards positive societal impact. The EU Commission focuses heavily on the principles of fair play. A preliminary investigation of several athlete role model programs and policies revealed that some programs also target fair play, discrimination, combatting violence, or addressing other relevant threats to the integrity of sport. By taking a bottom-up approach, the ATHLETES 4 SOCIETY project contributes to the EU Commission's sport policy objectives.
